It was as if the residents of Sagamu had been looking forward to that particular day. The church was filled beyond capacity, the congregation was unusual; as dignitaries, VIP guests, serving government officials as well top politicians from all over Nigeria all made it to the annual thanksgiving and memorial service put together by former Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel. It was the 13th edition last Sunday, January 28, 2018 and as usual, the event was held held at Abraham’s Taberbanacle, Erinwole Road, G.R.A Sagamu in Ogun State.
Guests were entertained with sonorous praises and worship songs from over 20 choir groups that who all came for the competition.It has been an annual event,where the former Governor and his ageless wife Yeye Olufunke Daniel host the people of their hometown. The Abraham’s Tabernacle(a Baptist International Worship Centre) was built by OGD in honour of his late father the Most Rev Abraham Adebola Daniel (JP).
With the large turn out, it was glaring that Otunba Gbenga Daniel is still so loved by his people. Vitually all his loyalists (both young and old) were in attendance and it was a reunion of sort for them. They were all full of smiles as they exchanged pleasantries.
OGD’s then deputy, Alhaja Salimot Badru who walked in with her husband, to Titi Oseni, the then Speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly, Mrs Folake Marcus Bello are some of the well-known loyalists of the former governor who were present. Hon. Kayode Amusan, a die hard loyalist of OGD, was also present.
The high point of the service was exhortation which was done by His Eminence Rev. Samson Olasupo Ayokunle who spoke on “The boat that will never sink”.He took the entire congregation through a 30minutes interesting session with his style of preaching. He is the present CAN President.
Over 15 traditional rulers from Ijebu graced the event. Among them are the Ajalorun of Ijebu Ife, The Alaiye of Odogbolu, Elerunwon of Eruwon, Ebumawe of Ago Iwoye, The Ibeje of Ijebu Igbo to mention few.
Other bigwigs in attendance at the event include Sir Adebutu Kessington, Otunba Subomi Balogun, Pa Ayo Adebayo, the oldest Professor in Ogun State, T. A Ogunlesi, Erelu Abiola Dosunmu, Members of Egbe Bobakeye of Ijebu and Egbe Jagunmolu of Ijebu. The church hall became a political ground of sorts when the host was called to give the vote of thanks. After his brief speech, where appreciated and acknowledged everyone who made it to the occasion, he called on all politicians who have governorship ambition in the coming elections to come to the podium for special prayers by Most. Reverend Fape.
Their supporters however sent the whole hall into a frenzy chanting the praises of their principals. They all came out in large numbers.
Senator Ladi Adebutu stormed the hall in his Celestial garment. He came in with his large number of grassroot supporters. Senator Solomon Adeola was also in attendance. He came with a large number of supporters too. For those who don’t know, Yayi irrespective of his party affiliation has a very cordial relationship with Otunba Daniel. Another Ogun guber-hopeful, Gboyega Nasir Isiaka (GNI) also came.
Senator Iyiola Omisore, who is believed to be eyeing the Osun governorship seat later this year was also among the politicians who got up to the podium. Engineer Seyi Makinde, a guber aspirant in Oyo State was also at the service with his supporters. See more pictures from the event below.
