Barcelona Issues Official Statement Regarding Gavi’s Injury

Barcelona and Spanish fans were left devastated as reports emerged that Gavi might miss the rest of the season. The club confirmed the news on Monday, November 20, 2023, revealing a complete tear of Gavi’s anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and an associated injury to the lateral meniscus. Surgery is scheduled in the coming days, with the club set to provide further updates afterward.

Gavi sustained the injury during Spain’s European Championship qualifying game against Georgia, where he was forced off after just 26 minutes. The 19-year-old midfielder, who has made 15 appearances for Barça, started 13 of those games and notably scored against Villarreal in the league and Royal Antwerp in the Champions League, adding one assist.

Since his debut against Getafe, Gavi has accumulated 111 appearances, 89 as a starter, with seven goals and 12 assists to his name. His contributions played a crucial role in Barça’s league title win in 2022/23 and the Spanish Super Cup in the same season.
