The Brazilian Football Federation has responded to the situation involving midfielder Antony and his girlfriend, who accused him of domestic violence.
On Monday, September 4, 2023, the football association issued a statement confirming Antony’s suspension from the national team. Antony, in a statement he released, acknowledged verbal disputes with his ex-girlfriend, Gabriela Cavallin, but vehemently denied any physical abuse.
“In light of the recent revelations concerning Manchester United player Antony on Monday, September 4th, which require investigation and to ensure the safety of the alleged victim, the player, the Brazilian national team, and the CBF, we announce that the athlete has been removed from the Brazilian national team,” the organization stated.
Gabriela Cavallin accused Antony of causing her injuries, including broken fingers and physical violence, during her pregnancy. These allegations were confirmed in an interview published on the Brazilian website UOL on Monday, September 4, 2023. Additional evidence, such as photographs and message screenshots, supports her claims of multiple incidents of abuse between June 2022 and May 2023.
