CAF, the governing body for football in Africa, has unveiled the final shortlist for the 2023 Women’s Best Player of the Year award. The announcement, made on their official X account on Monday, November 27, 2023, includes notable names like Asisat Oshoala and Chiamaka Nnadozie. Both Oshoala and Nnadozie stood out among the seven Nigerians initially nominated from a 30-player list. Additionally, Nnadozie earned a spot among the finalists for the Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year.
Notably absent from the final list are players such as Rasheedat Ajibade, Uchenna Kanu, Osinachi Ohale, Toni Payne, and Christy Ucheibe. Meanwhile, Deborah Abiodun and Esther Ajakaye are in the running for the Best Young Player of the Year award.
Oshoala, eyeing a record-breaking sixth win, is a standout contender. The Super Falcons are also in contention for the Women’s National Team of the Year. The award ceremony is scheduled for December 11 in Marrakech, Morocco.
