Further details have emerged about the gruesome murder of a caterer Mrs. Olakunbi Adene who was murdered in Akure, the Ondo State capital, last week. Two of her three domestic staff have confessed to killing the woman after their arrest. The two arrested suspects were apprehended in Akure and Idanre after detectives from the Ondo State Police Command tracked the woman’s two Android phones to them.According to a police source, the driver of the deceased (the third suspect) ran away after his wife answered a call from the late woman’s phone. The source said the suspects confessed to murdering the caterer who even prepared a delicious meal for them on that fateful Thursday evening as part of the celebration of her 54th birthday. After eating the delicious food, they descended on her and killed her, the source said.
According to the source, the suspects confessed that they strangled her and cut her head with a cutlass, despite her begging them to spare her life.
The suspects also said the deafening noise from the generator prevented the neighbors from knowing what was happening while they kept stabbing her. They also revealed that they tried to set the house on fire to make it look like a fire incident, but the gas cylinder they emptied failed to ignite. They covered the body with rubber materials, intending to burn the entire house so that people would think it was caused by a gas explosion from the kitchen. The gas cylinder eventually exploded and the woman was partially burnt. They then took her ATM cards and two Android phones and fled the scene.”
The deceased’s younger brother, Adebola Oyeneye, said, “I was the one who took the body to the mortuary; they burnt part of her stomach.”
