Super Eagles’ assistant coach, Emmanuel Amunike, clarified the recent media buzz around him supposedly favoring Mohamed Salah over Victor Osimhen. Amunike, who nurtured Osimhen’s talent in the U-17 World Cup, expressed frustration at the misunderstanding.
He explained that he was asked to choose between Mohamed Salah and Achraf Hakimi, and his selection of Salah was rooted in his experiences playing and living in Egypt.
Amunike emphasized that he holds Osimhen in high regard and was not involved in any voting process. In a message to the public, he urged against spreading false news and highlighted the responsibility of journalists to convey accurate information.
Amunike, a familiar figure in the CAF awards, earned recognition as the best player in 1994 for his pivotal role in Nigeria’s African Cup of Nations victory.
