Federal Government Plans to Include Almajiri System in National School Feeding Program

The Federal Government has announced its intention to integrate the Almajiri system into the national school feeding program. Dr. Yetunde Adeniji, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Home-Grown School Feeding, revealed this plan during a visit to the Jigawa State Governor.

Dr. Adeniji’s visit aimed to inform the Governor about the Federal Government’s initiative to expand the national school feeding program to include Almajiri schools. She emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring adequate nutrition for schoolchildren across the country.

In response, Governor Umar Namadi expressed gratitude for the visit and thanked President Tinubu for supporting the program. He praised the success of the school feeding initiative in Jigawa State and pledged full support for its expansion.

Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep Benjamin Okezie Kalu, highlighted the parliament’s efforts to amend the Access to Higher Education Act 2023. The amendment aims to provide equal opportunities for all Nigerian children to pursue a university education, regardless of their economic background.

Kalu stressed the importance of addressing challenges in accessing quality education, citing initiatives like the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (Tetfund) and ongoing amendments to the Act. He emphasized the need for inclusivity and equity in higher education, advocating for a focus on skills acquisition over certificates.

Kalu also called for collaboration between academia, government, and industry to drive progress and prosperity.
