In a recent incident in Obiofia Nnewi Ichi, Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra state, a residential duplex fell victim to a fierce blaze. According to The Nation’s report, this devastating fire erupted at approximately 7 pm on Thursday, August 24, 2023, and was believed to have been triggered by an electric spark resulting from a power surge.

Anambra State’s Fire Chief, Martin Agbili, reassured that, fortunately, there were no casualties in the inferno. Nonetheless, the duplex sustained significant damage due to the intensity of the fire.

Agbili detailed the response, saying, “At about 1902hrs (7.02 pm) on Thursday, 24-08-2023, Anambra State Fire Service received a distress call regarding a fire outbreak in Obiofia Nnewi Ichi, Nnewi North Local Government Area. Our firetruck and dedicated firefighters were swiftly dispatched to the scene to combat, extinguish, and control the fire.”

He went on to explain that the fire’s origin was traced back to an electric spark caused by a power surge. While the building itself suffered substantial losses, the prompt response from firefighters prevented the blaze from spreading to neighboring structures.

“Our firefighters successfully left the scene at about 2130hrs (9.30 pm),” Agbili concluded, highlighting the effective efforts that helped contain the disaster.
