In a recent interview on CNN’s African Voices segment, Fireboy DML is making waves by asserting that he doesn’t consider himself an Afrobeats artist, despite the common classification. Instead, he proudly identifies as an artist hailing from Africa.
Born Adedamola Oyinlola Adefolahan, Fireboy DML first captured the Nigerian music scene’s attention with his hit single, “Jealous,” featured on YBNL Nation’s collaborative album, “YBNL Mafia Family” in 2018. This track seamlessly blends African indigenous melodies with soul influences.
Following the success of his debut single and two quick follow-ups, Fireboy DML dropped his debut album, “Laughter, Tears, and Goosebumps,” on November 29, 2019, garnering rave reviews.
