Nigerian music producer and singer, Pheelz, recently opened up in an interview with MTV Base Africa, expressing that despite his transition to secular music, he still views himself as the same boy who grew up actively involved in church.
Pheelz, whose real name is Philip Kayode Moses, fondly recalled his days singing and playing keyboards in his father’s Lagos church, where his dad served as a pastor. Reflecting on his musical journey, he noted how he always had a sense that he would transition from being a producer to an artist.
The conversation touched upon his hit song ‘Finesse,’ created with BNXN, which unexpectedly went viral on TikTok. When asked about his creative journey, Pheelz shared, “That journey is quite extensive. I believe that at some point in my life, I might turn all these experiences into a movie because it’s not only inspirational to me but also to many others.”
He went on to discuss his path from Coded Tunez to his role in YBNL, collaborating with artists like Olamide, Fireboy, Adekunle Gold, Lil Kesh, and others both within and outside the label. Pheelz emphasized, “I wouldn’t change a thing because the journey, with its ups and downs, has been beautiful. However, I still see myself as that same kid from my church, the 10-year-old playing the keys while my dad delivered sermons. My passion remains unchanged, and it’s what has driven me all these years.”
