Nigerians faced disappointment as the Super Eagles of Nigeria couldn’t secure a victory in their initial two matches of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The team settled for a draw in both the home match against Lesotho and the away game against Zimbabwe.
Jose Peseiro, the head coach, attributed the failure against Zimbabwe to insufficient rest for the players after their return from Nigeria, stating, “It was a tough trip with minimal rest, making it challenging for the players to perform at their best level quickly.”
Despite a rough first half, the team showed improvement in the second half. Walter Musona and Kelechi Iheanacho scored the goals at Huye Stadium in Rwanda on Sunday, November 19, 2023.
