Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro, left Nigerians stunned during the post-match conference after the draw against Equatorial Guinea. When asked about his thoughts on the result, the Portuguese coach attributed it to divine influence, saying, “God gives and God takes, hopefully, God gives us the match.”
Despite Nigeria’s dominance from the start, Equatorial Guinea took the lead in the 36th minute. The Super Eagles swiftly responded with Victor Osimhen’s headed goal, courtesy of Ademola Lookman’s deflected cross. Moses Simon had a chance at the post, but Nigeria couldn’t secure more goals under intense pressure.
Peseiro, having not won his last three competitive games against Lesotho, Zimbabwe, and now Equatorial Guinea, faces a crucial match against Ivory Coast, as Nigeria can’t afford to lose against the host nation with just a point on the board.
