Heavy rainfall lasting several hours triggered a flood that claimed three lives in the Dakingari area of Suru Local Government in Kebbi State. Suru Local Government Chairman, Alhaji Muhammad Lawal Suru, revealed that the flood not only caused loss of life but also resulted in the destruction of properties worth millions of naira.
Suru explained, “Following the intense rain, water from the mountains surrounding Dakingari contributed to the flooding. We’ve been grappling with this annual flood issue for over two decades. Previous administrations, including Nasamu Dakingari and Atiku Bagudu, attempted to address the problem by constructing drainage systems, but the floods continue to occur.”
He urged residents to refrain from constructing buildings near waterways and culverts and to avoid dumping refuse in these areas. Suru also suggested that constructing a concrete fence and an outlet around the mountains could potentially prevent future floods.
