Napoli, the Serie A team, has issued an official statement to address the situation involving Victor Osimhen and the club.
The 2022/23 Serie A champions released an official statement on their website on Thursday, September 28, 2023. In the statement, they clarified that their intention was never to mock or humiliate Victor Osimhen with the TikTok video they posted. They emphasized that Osimhen is a valuable asset to the club and will be treated with respect.
“Napoli, in an effort to prevent any misunderstanding, wants to make it clear that we never intended to offend or ridicule Victor Osimhen, who is a cherished member of our club. As evidence of this, during the summer training camp, the club firmly rejected all transfer offers for the striker from abroad. Social media, especially TikTok, often uses a playful and creative style of expression without any intention of insult or mockery, as was the case with Osimhen. However, if Victor felt offended in any way, that was not our club’s intention.”
Osimhen expressed anger after a video was posted on the club’s official TikTok account, depicting him with a comically high voice appealing for a penalty against Bologna, which he subsequently missed.
The player’s agent, Roberto Calenda, threatened legal action against Napoli, and Osimhen removed most of the images of himself wearing Napoli’s jersey from his official Instagram account.
