Newcastle United supporters and their midfielder, Sandro Tonali, are now facing the dreaded news they had feared.
The Magpies midfielder has received a ten-month ban for his past betting activities during his time with AC Milan in Italy. This announcement was made by the head of the Italian Football Federation on October 26, 2023.
In addition to his suspension, Tonali is mandated to participate in programs aimed at overcoming his gambling addiction. He’s also set to share his experiences through talks for the next eight months as part of his agreement with FIGC. This ban is expected to extend to international football as well.
Sandro Tonali made his move to Newcastle United from AC Milan in the summer transfer window of 2023 for a hefty £55 million. His last appearance on the pitch was against Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League at Saint James’ Park on the same fateful date, October 26, 2023.
Regrettably, this means that the 23-year-old midfielder will be absent for the remainder of the 2023/24 season and the Euro 2024. The earliest we can anticipate his return to the football scene is in August 2024.
