Yemisi Akintoye, a highly regarded Nigerian referee with a FIFA badge, has earned a spot in the upcoming 2023 African Women’s Champions League. She, a graduate of the University of Lagos, stands among the 17 referees from across Africa, with 12 of them selected to officiate at the tournament scheduled to be held in Cote d’Ivoire from November 5 to November 19.
In an announcement by the Confederation of African Football on Monday, November 6, it was officially confirmed that Akintoye would be among the referees contributing to the 2023 African Women’s Champions League. Notably, she will share this honor with Salma Musaganda of Rwanda, who holds the distinction of being the first African woman referee to officiate at the men’s World Cup.
Yemisi Akintoye, who obtained her FIFA Referee badge in 2021, boasts a track record of officiating at several international competitions, including the WAFU Women’s Champions League and the Aisha Buhari Tournament, to name a few.
