The elders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State have urged Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to launch an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the untimely death of the late governorship aspirant of the party, Paul Akintelure. Dr. Akintelure, a medical practitioner vying for the APC governorship ticket, tragically passed away in the early hours of Tuesday.
This heartbreaking event occurred shortly after Dr. Akintelure raised concerns about his safety, citing a serious threat to his life in the lead-up to the APC governorship primary scheduled for April 25. Although he did not provide specific details about the threat, he expressed his apprehension with grave concern and a heavy heart.
In response to the tragic news, the party elders, under the banner of Ondo APC Aborigine, convened a meeting on Tuesday to mourn the passing of the esteemed medical doctor. The Chairman of the APC elders group and former Nigerian Ambassador to Togo, Sola Iji, speaking on behalf of the members, emphasized the importance of Governor Aiyedatiwa conducting a thorough investigation into Dr. Akintelure’s death, especially in light of the alleged threat to his life.
He stated, “The meeting was convened to receive and endorse the final report of the group’s resolution in supporting one of the aspirants. However, we were deeply saddened this morning when we received the news of Dr. Paul Akintelure’s passing. We have temporarily suspended our meeting to mourn his demise.
“A few days ago, he spoke out about a threat to his life. While we are not privy to the specifics, we urge the governor to uncover any potential mystery surrounding his death. It is the government’s duty to safeguard lives and property. We have adjourned our meeting to a later date for further deliberations.”
