FIFA, the global football governing body, has officially announced that Saudi Arabia will be the host country for the 2034 World Cup. This announcement was made on FIFA’s official website on Monday, October 31, 2023. Saudi Arabia was the sole nation to submit a bid to host this prestigious international football event.
Gianni Infantino, the President of FIFA, confirmed this decision, emphasizing the unifying power of football in a statement, stating, “Football unites the world like no other sport, and the World Cup is the perfect showcase for a message of unity and inclusion, where different cultures can come together.”
Despite the sole bid, FIFA has assured that a rigorous bidding and evaluation process will take place. According to FIFA, this process aligns with the Bidding Regulations approved by the FIFA Council, and the hosts for the 2030 and 2034 World Cup editions will be appointed by FIFA Congresses expected to convene by Q4 2024. Additionally, FIFA administration will engage in targeted dialogue to ensure that complete and comprehensive bids meet the minimum hosting requirements.
