The Nigeria Football Federation has given Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro a three-day deadline to decide on accepting a reduced salary and extending his contract. If he doesn’t make a decision within this timeframe, he may bid farewell to his position, as stated by the NFF technical committee. Sheriff Rabiu Inuwa, the committee’s chairman, suggested that if Peseiro declines the pay cut and contract renewal, the NFF will appoint an interim coach for the Super Eagles’ 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sao Tome and Principe next month. Afterward,
they will begin the search for a new permanent head coach. Peseiro’s previous contract expired at the end of last month, and he has expressed his desire to lead the Super Eagles to the 2023 AFCON finals in Cote d’Ivoire. However, he is not willing to accept a reduction from his $70,000 salary. Peseiro assumed the role of Super Eagles coach in May 2022.
