Mum From Hell! Ghanaian Lady In US And Boyfriend Sentenced To 25Yrs In Jail For Beating 5Yr Old Son To Death

A lady, Valerie Owusu, along with her boyfriend, Emmanuel Addae, both 28 years old Ghanaians and residing in Corona, Queens, New York, has been sentenced to a 25-year jail term for second-degree murder in the death of her 5-year-old son. They had been convicted in March of depraved indifference murder for the death of King Owusu. The verdict was delivered on Wednesday, 1 May, 2024, in court, with the mum Valarie in tears.

Despite expressing love for the child and pleading for leniency, they were given the maximum sentences by acting State Supreme Court Justice Steven Pilewski. Valerie broke down in tears as the sentence was read. The couple have gotten a baby girl together after the late King Owusu whom she had for another man. The sentence comes nearly three years after the case started.

A judge handed down their punishment Wednesday, ruling no one was “more deserving of a maximum sentence” than the defendants in this case.

Prosecutors said that after beating King Owusu, the defendants watched the child’s condition worsen over the course of roughly three days, then dropped him off at the home of Addae’s parents in Long Island after the boy lost consciousness, according to Newsday. A relative notified authorities, who brought the victim to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Prosecutors said the medical examiner who conducted the child’s autopsy testified that King’s injuries covered his entire body and “were too numerous to count.” Reacting to the sentence, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney said said in a press statement; “The jury has spoken, but unfortunately, that will not bring back this young boy. Thanks to the thorough investigation by the Suffolk County Police Department, the relentless pursuit of justice by the prosecutors assigned to this case, and the jury’s careful consideration of the evidence presented, the defendants have been held accountable for this horrific crime,” the District Attorney
